There's a hole in the world because Stacy Grater is Missing

987 Days Ago Stacy Grater seemingly disappeared off the face of this earth.

However, Stacy Grater did not just vanish and nothing but her could ever soothe the aching void her disappearance has left behind.

There's been a hole in the world since Stacy Grater went Missing. A daily stark crater in the lives of the many who miss her, a gaping abyss in the life of Stacy Grater's child longing for her Mom, the cries of a niece begging for her to answer, the many friends who've been aimlessly lost since she's been gone.

It sadly appears that Stacy Grater's Missing Persons Case has been somewhat neglected by Law Enforcement. Rather than fully pursuing her case, the hole left since she's been gone has been simply walked around while information leading to potential answers of her current presence appear to have been somewhat stifled.

Today, along with all those who love her, Monday4 the Missing says - NO MORE! No More ignoring the hole in the world left without Stacy in it, No More pretending she never mattered, No More walking around the bottomless pit her loss created!

The Pain of Life without Stacy...cannot be ignored.

A Family Member of Stacy Grater is a member of Peace4 the Missing and upon her Peace4 Page she has a song which has become the inspiration behind this post...

Lyrics to Hole In The World :
There's a hole in the world tonight
There's a cloud of fear and sorrow
There's a hole in the world tonight
Don't let there be a hole in the world tomorrow

The Eagles - There's A Hole In The World Tonight

It's time to Find Stacy Grater, it's time to fill the hole she left behind.

Missing Since March: Kelli Renee Rice

Missing Since March: Kelli Renee Rice

Booneville, AR - Young mother Kelli Renee Rice, 25, has been missing since March 2, 2008, but you wouldn’t know it from reading the papers. There’s no widespread search for Kelli. No press coverage, no t-shirts or angel-winged photoshopped pictures circling the internet or the globe. Nobody, it seems, really cares that much what happened to Kelli Rice - except her family. Kelli’s mother, Rhonda, has asked us to feature Kelli on our site in hopes that someone - anyone - will know what has happened to her.

Kelli Rice was born on August 1, 1983. A tall, slender girl with light brown hair, she’d run with the same small group of friends since grade school. She hung out with them, partied with them, did drugs with them at times. Kelli was not a saint, her family will tell you. But she was a sweet girl, and trusting - sometimes too trusting, they believe.

Kelli’s son was born two years ago, after she completed drug rehabilitation in Missouri. Now two, her baby’s father is in prison, so he has an alibi for the night Kelli went missing. Kelli had been to see him in Oak Grove, Missouri the week before she disappeared. When she got back to Arkansas, it was party time again.

The following timeline comes from the family’s own investigation of Kelli’s disappearance. At this time, nobody has been named a suspect or even a person of interest in the investigation, and the family believes that local law enforcement has simply decided not to look for Kelli. All information from here out comes from Kelli’s family and friends.

On February 29, Kelli went to a friend’s house. Sometime during that evening, her friends Beronica Terry and Terry Luther Jr. met her at the house and the three of them went to visit a man named Steven Long at his trailer near Ione. Steven Long and Kelli had an on-again, off-again relationship, and Long was reportedly upset that Kelli refused to see him exclusively.

The next day, Kelli, Steven Long and a guy named Aaron Henry went to Ft. Smith, Arkansas to sell drugs to Kelli’s cousin, Mary Foster. Mary says that she bought the drugs the evening of March 1. Then Kelli, Long and Henry left her house between 2:00 and 2:30 on the morning of March 2. The trio said they were headed back to Steven Long’s place.

One man later told deputies that he had seen Kelli Rice walking in the woods near Ione about twelve hours after the group left Mary Foster’s home. He spotted a woman who he believes may have beenKelli at about two in the afternoon of March 2. Days later, Kelli’s jacket was found nearby. There was no blood on the jacket, but there did appear to be marks on the back that looked like whoever was wearing the jacket had been dragged across the ground.

When Kelli didn’t show up to get her baby, her family called to report her missing and deputies questioned the people with whom she was last seen. Aaron Henry reportedly told the investigating officer that Kelli had “freaked out” on the way back from Mary Foster’s house. Henry allegedly said that Kelli had jumped out the window of Long’s pick-up truck and they “never saw her again”.

The problem with his story is that Kelli traditionally rode in the middle of the front seat of that truck, and that window didn’t work without using pliers to crank it. In order to jump out the window, Kelli would have had to jump over Steven Long, use the pliers to crank the window, and get out without anyone stopping her.

Beronica Terry told Kelli’s family that she gave a statement to the police saying that Steven Long had asked her to beat up Kelli. Terry Luther Jr. told the family that Steven Long had offered to pay him and Beronica to bring Kelli to Steven’s house.

And Steven Long, for his part, seems to have left the Ione area himself. Kelli’s family says that Long uses several aliases and has talked a lot, but his story changes each time. In fact, he dropped off Kelli’s purse with her family shortly after she went missing. At this point, Kelli’s mother Rhonda believes that Long and Henry murdered Kelli on the night of March 2.

Kelli’s clothes were found in March near a campfire in the woods near Ione. No other hard evidence appears to have been found. Kelli has not called or shown up for her son - actions her family says are unthinkable for her if she is still alive. The family has received phone calls stating that Kelli’s body has been found or was in a well - one area well was drained to search, but Kelli’s body was not in it. Local law enforcement officials have not commented on this case except to say that Kelli’s body has not been found and that they are treating this case as a missing persons investigation.

If you know Kelli Renee Rice or have any information about her condition or whereabouts, please call the Logan County Arkansas Sheriff’s Office at (479)963-3271.

Young Single Missing Mother ~ Melanie Metheny

To further put pressure on the "someone" who must know what happened to Melanie Metheny, CUE Center from Wilmington, NC has erected a billboard with Melanie's information on it in hopes of finding a resolution to this case for her family. After erecting a billboard in Whiteville, NC, within 2 weeks there was a break in the case of Carol Dowless, someone came forward, and she was found after 3 years. We hope that the same answers can come for the Metheny family and that 3 children will have answers.

There is a letter on the family website of Melanie Metheny that her family discovered among her belongings that they didn't even know was there. At the end of the letter Melanie writes the following:
Being a single mom is not easy at all but watching my kids grow up and watching them learn new things is the greatest feeling that I ever had. I would not change them for the world and I don't know where I'd be right now if I didn't have them but I know my life wouldn't have as much meaning.
After reading those words lovingly put down on paper by Melanie Metheny, there can be no question in the reader's mind that she did not drop them off at day care on the morning of July 19, 2006 and walk away into a new life. Something has happened to Melanie and someone knows exactly what that something is.
Melanie had a lot to look forward to in her life and in the lives of her children.
The family has not given up, and will not give up, looking for her.

Easy Activism....Copy, Paste and Change the World!

Internet Petitions...a Waste of Time?
snopes.com: Internet Petitions

Posted using ShareThis

Best intentions aside, seems like studies have shown that online petitions actually aren't all that productive. Yet, all hope is not lost. Project Jason has a wonderful task for all of us, to help implement an essential bill to aid many loved one's missing persons. And with the way they have it set-up, it's just as easy as signing an online petition, yet the impact is far greater.
http://www.projectjason.org/legislation.html

These are the basic steps involved:

1) If you are interested in helping make a difference in the lives of thousands of missing persons and their families, send an email to campaignforthemissing@projectjason.org Give us your name and the state in which you live. Campaign volunteers are asked to work as a team and post updates on a special area of Project Jason’s forum.

2) Look up the name and contact information for your state senator. This is the official who works with state law rather than federal. You may look up your representative here http://www.ncsl.org/public/leglinks.cfm

3) Send either via email or US mail the prepared letter you will find at the end of this posting to that representative. You are asking them to sponsor this bill and to present it to the senate.

4) If you get a negative response, write to other senators until sponsorship is obtained. (My hope is that there will be more than one person in each state working on this, so that no one person is working on it.)

Sample Letter

This is a sample letter you may use to send to your state senator to ask for sponsorship of the model legislation.

Dear Senator _________,

It has come to my attention that there is a very real and growing problem here in the state of ____________.

Each year, families in __________ struggle with the agony of having to report a missing loved one. Far too often missing persons investigations grow cold, leaving many to cope with this loss. Historically, the law enforcement community's ability to locate and ensure a safe return of those missing has been hampered by an inability to share resources and information when conducting investigations and identifying remains.

In collaboration with experts representing State and local law enforcement, policymakers, forensic scientists, medical examiners and coroners, and crime victims, the U.S. Department of Justice has developed model State legislation. This model legislation seeks to address the national problems of missing persons and the identification of human remains.

For cases involving missing persons, law enforcement's ability to locate and ensure a safe return must be improved. Law enforcement must be granted additional tools to identify high-risk missing persons cases and promptly disseminate critical information to other law enforcement agencies and the public. This model legislation provides framework for improving law enforcement's response.

It suggests ways States can improve the collection of critical information about missing persons, prioritize high-risk missing persons cases, and ensure prompt dissemination of critical information to other law enforcement agencies and the public that can improve the likelihood of a safe return. At the same time, this model legislation suggests an approach for collecting information during the missing persons reporting process that can later be used to help identify human remains.

The model legislation will also ensure that information that could help identify human remains is promptly collected and reported to national databases. Specifically, the model legislation suggests a mechanism for improving death scene investigations, centralizing within the State the reporting of unidentified remains, ensuring the delivery of human remains to an entity that can conduct an appropriate examination, ensuring the timely reporting of identifying information to national databases, and maximizing available resources that can reduce the cost of identifications.

There are an estimated 40,000-50,000 unidentified deceased persons in the US. Many of these persons may be reported missing, but without the model legislation in place as law, this number will continue to grow. This leaves families of the missing without answers, sometimes for years, and unfortunately, sometimes forever.

With more than 100,000+ missing persons cases open in the US, it is clear that we must place more importance upon actions taken that will decrease this number. We are, after all, not talking about numbers, but about human beings. These missing persons are loved and missed by their families. We need to take swift and firm action to put into place laws which will give these families hope and increase the number who come back home.

As my state representative, I ask you to strongly consider sponsoring this bill in the next legislative session. Thank you.

Sincerely,

XXXX XXXXX

Quicker Way to Locate Missing Children

Kristi's Social Media and PR Blog: Quicker Way to Locate Missing Children: "The National Fraternal Order of Police announced that they have released a photographic system, PhotoAlert, that is intended to speed up the process of recovery missing children. 'By using proprietary GPS technology, National PhotoAlert meets that demand in missing children cases by issuing geographic-specific alerts to thousands of recipients each minute including law enforcement and government agencies. Recipients receive both a photograph and text information of a missing person.'"
